At high tide the beach is very small, due to cliff formation, however at low tide it becomes much larger and wider. The rural beach faces south west out into the Atlantic Ocean and is backed by sandstone cliffs. At low tide the waters are shallow and a distance from the shore front. The bay and coastal waters form part of the Pembrokeshire Marine Special Area of Conservation and is also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, which confirms the high conservation status of the Area. The bathing water also lies within Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Caerfai Beach is adjacent to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
