"The sea was wet as wet could be"

Heritage Coasts - Spurn Heritage Coast

The sea is in turn building and eroding this unique hooked peninsula of sand and shingle.

As a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest), geomorphologists monitor its changing shape and, in spring and autumn, migrating birds pause here in their thousands, attracting visitors to the bird observatory.

Spurn Heritage Coast was designated in October 1988. It is managed by Natural England.
