Morar Beach is an extensive stretch of coastline featuring a series of small, sandy coves and bays that run south from the village of Morar to Portnaluchaig. This 2-mile coastline is renowned for its stunning silver sands and crystal-clear, turquoise waters that are warmed by the Gulf Stream.
The beach offers a range of activities, including beach-combing, rockpooling, and simply taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding area. From the beach, visitors can see the islands of Rum, Eigg, Muck, and Canna. The northern end of the beach features a vast sandy plain where a small river flows from Loch Morar, the deepest body of freshwater in the UK, into the sea.
Morar Beach has been used as a filming location for several movies, including Local Hero and Highlander, due to its natural beauty.
There is a car park located just outside the town of Morar, along the B8008, which provides access to public toilets. A relatively steep path leads from the car park down to the beach. Additional lay-bys are available along the B8008 for parking. The area also features a golf club and offers numerous walking trails with stunning sea views. Morar has its own railway station on the Fort William – Mallaig line and one hotel.
