Achmelvich Beach is a picturesque and secluded bay located on the rural west coast of Scotland, offering a serene and natural environment for visitors to enjoy. .

Achmelvich Beach is a beautiful, sheltered, and rural west coast bay characterised by a large expanse of silver sands. The beach is surrounded by granite outcrops that divide it into sections, and it is edged with rocks and grassland, providing a stunning mountain backdrop.

The beach looks across the bay to the coastal village of Lochinver, with the islands of Lewis and Harris visible just offshore. A smaller sandy cove is located just north of the main beach and can be reached along the beach at low tide. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag, indicating its high water quality and environmental standards.

Achmelvich Beach is popular with families, windsurfers, water-skiers, and kayakers during the summer months. Visitors can engage in various activities, including fishing, hiking, and exploring the surrounding mountain trails, which offer breathtaking scenery. Fishing enthusiasts can catch a variety of fish species, including cod, haddock, and mackerel, while hikers can climb the rocky outcrop of An Farad Bheag for stunning views.

The beach is accessed via a single-track road from the B869, and it is rarely crowded, despite having a nearby campsite and caravan park. Free parking is available nearby, and well-behaved dogs are welcome on the beach. A 1950s landmark building, known as Hermit's Castle, is located on the headland, offering a unique and interesting feature to explore.
