Mellon Udrigle Beach is a delightful bay with broad sands that stretch into the inviting azure sea. The beach is a popular location for sailors and campers, and its scenic views make it a favourite spot for photographers and artists.
The beach is situated just off the A832, and visitors can access it via a single-track road leading out of the village of Laide towards the remote settlement of Mellon Udrigle. Visitors are advised to leave their cars in the parking area just before the village and take the wooden boardwalk down towards the beach.
The beach boasts fine silver sands, backed by gentle dunes and grassy areas, which slope gently into the crystal-clear waters of Gruinard Bay. The waters can appear a stunning shade of turquoise blue in the right light, and rocky promontories add interest to the terrain. The beach is perfect for walking, picnicking, or simply sitting and watching the wildlife, including sea birds and seals. On calm summer days, the beach is an ideal destination for families with young children, who can enjoy playing in the sand or exploring the rock pools.
There is a campsite adjacent to the beach, but there are no facilities for day visitors, so beachgoers are advised to bring everything they might need. Dog-walking is allowed, but dogs must be kept under control at all times, as sheep regularly graze on the shoreline.
