Charlestown Beach, located on the south coast of Cornwall, is a picturesque destination known for its Georgian harbour, tall ships, and beautiful beaches.

Charlestown is situated on the south coast of Cornwall, surrounded by cliffs. The beach resort is approximately 290 metres wide and features a pebble and shingle beach.

The village of Charlestown is home to a Georgian harbour that has been featured in several film and television programmes. The harbour is currently home to a fleet of tall ships. There are two beaches either side of the harbour: a sand and stone beach to the east, known as Polmear Beach or Charlestown Beach, and a small pebble beach to the west.

Charlestown, originally the fishing village of Porthmeur (or West Polmear), was developed as a port in the 18th Century by Charles Rashleigh. The harbour and visitor attraction of Charlestown is one of Cornwall’s World Heritage Sites. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including snorkelling around Polmear Island and Appletree Point, and exploring the Shipwreck and Heritage Centre artefacts and diving museum.

The beach is dog free all year round, although the town has dog friendly attractions. Visitors can spend the day taking in the sites, admiring the tall ships, and enjoying a bite to eat at the Rashleigh Arms. Walkers can follow the South West Coast Path along the cliffs to nearby destinations, such as Duporth, Porthpean, and Crinnis Beach (Carlyon Bay). There are also two private slipways for launching small craft, such as kayaks, on an occasional basis.

Charlestown is also well known for being one of the main locations for the TV series Poldark.

Charlestown Beach is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
