Perranporth Penhale Sands is situated in the centre of Perran Sands, approximately one kilometre wide, and is backed by a formidable dune system. The beach is part of a Special Area of Conservation that joins up with Perran Sands and Perranporth beach to form a three mile stretch of golden sand. A stream flows across the beach to the sea, and the dune system includes St. Piran's Cross and the ruins of St Piran's oratory.
The beach is easily accessible and is a popular destination for surfers, kite surfers, and those looking for long walks with their dogs. The village of Perranporth is nearby, offering shops and restaurants. There are also a number of holiday camping and caravan parks located directly behind the beach, over the dunes.
The beach is thought to be the landing place of Saint Piran from Ireland, and St Piran's Cross and the ruins of St Piran's Oratory are a short walk across the dunes. The area is a Special Area of Conservation, recognising its unique natural and historical significance.
Perranporth Penhale Sands is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
