Portscatho Beach is characterised by pebbles and rocks, with a small patch of sand. The beach is situated in a small, east-facing cove in the south-west corner of Gerrans Bay. At low tide, some sand is exposed, but the beach is predominantly rocky.
The village of Portscatho offers a range of amenities, including a car park, cafes, pubs, and shops. Visitors can wander through the charming narrow lanes, lined with whitewashed houses, and browse the local shops. The village is also home to a number of restaurants and cafes, where visitors can enjoy a meal or snack.
Portscatho was once famous for its pilchard fishing industry.
