Barry Island's Whitmore Bay is a popular seaside destination in South Wales, known for its soft sandy beach and range of entertainment options. .

Whitmore Bay, also known as Barry Island Beach, is located on Barry Island, at the southern tip of Wales, approximately ten miles along the coast from Cardiff. The bay is a 700m sandy cove situated west of Barry Docks and Jackson's Bay, facing south towards the Bristol Channel. The beach is backed by the dock area and the town of Barry, with limestone cliffs and headlands, including Friars Point to the west and Nell's Point to the east.

The beach offers a range of amenities, including seaside shops, amusement arcades, crazy golf, horse and carriage rides, and beach huts for hire. There is also a climbing wall and various events throughout the year. The beach has a seasonal lifeguard service available and is known for being clean and generally litter-free. Wheelchairs are available for loan, and the beach and promenade are accessible.

Visitors to Whitmore Bay can enjoy a range of activities, including sunbathing, swimming, rock pooling, and building sandcastles. The beach is also a popular location for fans of the TV series Gavin and Stacey, who can spot filming locations and take in the glorious views of the Bristol Channel. The nearby Barry Island Pleasure Park offers additional entertainment options, including rides and games.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach from May 1 to September 30, but are permitted outside of these dates. The beach holds a Blue Flag, and Barry Island Seafront and Friary Point have been awarded a Green Flag. Parking is easy to find close to the beach, and the train journey from Cardiff takes approximately 30 minutes.
