Hunstanton is the only coastal town in East Anglia to face west, and its south beach is part of a long stretch of predominantly sandy coastline that stretches from Snettisham. The beach varies in size depending on the state of the tide, and can become crowded in the summer months. The wide, sandy beach is backed by a lengthy promenade with cafes, fairground rides, and amusements.
The south beach is known for its striking red and white striped cliffs, calm waters, and spectacular sunsets. The town has a good range of attractions, including a Sea Life Centre, a leisure centre, and an indoor market. Visitors can also arrange wildlife-spotting boat trips to maximise their chances of seeing some of the marine life in the bay. For nature lovers, coastal tours on ‘Wiley, the Wash Monster’ amphibious ex-military vehicle, or a visit to the Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary are available.
Hunstanton Sands, also known as Sunny Hunny, is a family-friendly sandy beach with plenty of sea front entertainment along the promenade, including amusements parks and the Hunstanton Fun Fair. The beach is perfect for families with traditional seaside attractions, beach huts available to rent, and a great beach to explore when the tide goes out, revealing rock pools around the groynes. The beach is also ideal for watersports, such as windsurfing, kite-surfing, water-skiing, and sailing, due to its ideal wind conditions.
The Norfolk Coast Path runs from Hunstanton South Beach all the way to Sea Palling. Visitors can take a boat trip from Hunstanton beach to observe Europe’s largest colony of common seals. The beach is dog friendly, with restrictions in the summer from the power boat ramp to the northern end of the promenade. There is a choice of holiday cottages and accommodation available nearby.
