Newburgh Beach is situated twenty minutes' drive north of Aberdeen and offers a unique combination of a long, sandy beach and an extensive dune system. The beach is fronted by the estuary of the River Ythan, creating a diverse habitat for various species of wildlife.
The beach is renowned for its large colony of seals, with approximately 400 individuals making the shoreline their home. Visitors can safely observe these marine mammals from the opposite bank. Additionally, the area is a prime spot for spotting whales and dolphins, which can often be seen close to the beach. The wide, sandy beach and surrounding sand dune system provide an ideal habitat for a variety of bird life, including the largest population of Eider Ducks in Europe.
The village of Newburgh, located a few hundred meters from the beach, offers a range of facilities, including toilets, shops, places to eat, and accommodation options. Visitors can also enjoy golf at the Newburgh-on-Ythan Golf Club, situated behind the beach. Parking spots are available in the village.
