St Combs Beach features extensive sandy beaches and superb dunes that stretch 14 kilometres south to Peterhead. The beach is backed by hills and a series of grassy dunes, offering fine views along the coastline and out over the vast North Sea. A golf course is also located to the north of the beach.
A walk along the shore to Rattray Head is a popular activity, providing an opportunity to stretch the legs and potentially spot seals sleeping in the sands. Early morning walks also offer the chance to see a beautiful sunrise. The area is reputed to be one of the sunniest parts of Scotland, making it an ideal destination for those seeking sunny weather.
The Strathberg Nature Reserve is located near the beach and features Britain’s largest dune loch. During the summer months, there is a good chance of spotting ospreys around the loch. The small fishing village of St Combs has a hotel and an ice-cream/chip shop which sells some everyday items, while more extensive facilities can be found in Fraserburgh.
