Reiss Beach is part of a long strip of sand that makes up Sinclair Bay, offering breathtaking views on a sunny day. The beach boasts pure white sands alongside the azure waters of the North Sea. Visitors can take a leisurely walk along the endless beach or explore the gentle sand-dunes.
The beach is best visited in summer to experience the prolonged daylight, with the sun not setting until almost midnight in June. In winter, visitors may be lucky enough to witness a spectacular display of the Northern Lights. However, the waters are too cold for swimming, and there is no lifeguard on duty. Occasional surfers can be spotted enjoying the waves in the more sheltered part of the bay.
The village of Reiss, located about 15 miles south of John O'Groats, features an 18-hole golf course. A free car park is available opposite the golf course, from which visitors can access the beach. It is essential to note that there are no facilities available at the beach. Walking south from the beach will lead visitors to Ackergill Tower, now a luxury hotel, and further round the bay, the ruins of 15th-century Sinclair Castle and a former lighthouse can be found.
There are no restrictions on dog walking at Reiss Beach at any time of year, making it an ideal destination for pet owners.
