Dunbar East Beach is situated close to the harbour and the lifeboat station, making it a convenient and popular spot for beachgoers. The beach is a mix of sand and shingle, stretching south-east from the harbour. It is a favourite among water sports enthusiasts, with kayakers and paddle boarders often taking to the waves.
When the tide is out, a number of rockpools are exposed, providing a great opportunity for exploration and discovery. The beach can also be affected by the sea's tides and conditions, with kelp often being deposited on the shore at certain times of year. The waves have, in the past, washed away sand from the beach, altering its shape and size.
The beach is backed by a sea wall at its north end, which forms part of the old harbour. At its southern end, a golf course lies adjacent to the beach. The town centre of Dunbar, with its shops, cafes, and places to stay, is just a short walk away, making it easy to combine a beach day with other activities.
