Dunbar Belhaven Beach, also known as Belhaven Bay, is a wide stretch of sandy beach approximately one mile in length, stretching from the mouth of the River Tyne in the north to the village of Belhaven on the outskirts of Dunbar to the south. The beach is characterised by its low sheltering sand dunes, salt marsh, and grasslands, offering lovely views out onto the Forth Estuary.
The beach is an excellent destination for long walks, picnics, and sunbathing, with great views across the Forth Estuary. Visitors can also enjoy surfing and kite flying on the beach. The surrounding landscape offers a variety of flora and fauna, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers.
Parking can be found at the end of Shore Road in Belhaven, and the beach is accessed by crossing a small bridge over a stream. The car park can also be the start of a cliff-top walk that takes visitors past the Winterfield Golf Course into the centre of Dunbar, next to the harbour. This walk offers spectacular views out to sea. There are good transport links to Dunbar, with the A1 passing nearby and a train station along the East Coast Main Line.
Dogs must be kept under control on the beach. The nearby town of Dunbar offers a range of amenities, including shops, restaurants, pubs, and places to stay, and is largely a commuter town for Edinburgh.
