"Little islands are all large prisons; one cannot look at the sea without wishing for the wings of a swallow."

Heritage Coasts - Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast

To the north are probably the finest line of chalk cliffs in the country, rising, at Bempton, to 130 metres, and home to our only mainland gannet colony. Rare geology of clay on chalk gives notable plant and wildlife.

Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast was designated in August 1989. It is managed by Natural England.
