The beach is formed by sand, pebbles, and chalk from the nearby Flamborough Headland, a Heritage Coast. It is predominantly sandy and backed by the Bridlington foreshore and town. The beach is 1.5 kilometres in length and has a gentle slope, with a large area exposed at low tide.
Bridlington South Beach is situated on the East Riding coast, to the south of Bridlington Spa and Bridlington Harbour. The beach adjoins Wilsthorpe Beach at its southern end and stretches for over a mile, becoming Fraisthorpe Beach further south. The coastline extends as far as the Humber estuary, making it an excellent spot for long walks.
The Princess Mary Promenade runs behind the beach, which is accessed via a slipway. There are several cafes and places to eat along the promenade, and parking can be found in the town of Bridlington. Limited pay and display parking is available along South Marine Drive, behind the Spa. The town also has public toilets and a train station with services on the line between Hull and Scarborough.
The beach offers a range of facilities, including chalets, a children's paddling pool, and a funfair with amusements, donkey rides, and plenty of ice cream and tearooms. Visitors can also take the Bridlington Park and Ride along the coast, which stops at a great cafe on the beach.
