Selwicks Bay is a charming beach situated in a bay at the foot of high cliffs, stretching for approximately 3/4 mile. The beach is composed of sand and pebbles, with some rock pools that are revealed as the tide goes out. The 400-feet chalk cliffs surrounding the bay provide a nesting site for a large number of birds, making it a haven for birdwatchers. Species such as gannets, oyster-catchers, gulls, and eider ducks can be spotted in the area.
The Old Flamborough Lighthouse, built in 1806, is located nearby and continues to guide vessels safely around the rocky headland. From the cliffs above the beach, there are striking views out over Bridlington Bay.
Although not directly related, it's worth noting that another popular beach in the area is North Landing Beach, a secluded bay also backed by cliffs. It offers various amenities, including places to eat and drink, a car park, public toilets, and a bus stop. Like Selwicks Bay, North Landing Beach is dog-friendly all year round.
Selwicks Bay is on the Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast.
