Pilling Sands and Knott End-on-Sea are two beautiful coastal locations in Lancashire, England, offering stunning views, interesting wildlife, and exciting activities for visitors.

Pilling Sands is an area of salt marsh located at the southern end of Morecambe Bay, overlooking the River Lune estuary.

The area features a vast expanse of wet sand exposed at low tide, although visitors are advised not to stray onto the sands due to the rapid incoming tides and patches of sinking sand. A rocky embankment was built in 1981 to protect the area from flooding. The Wyre-Lune Wildfowl Sanctuary is located at the western end of the area, offering an opportunity to spot interesting bird life. An information board provides details on the local wildlife.

The Lancashire Coastal Way passes nearby, although the section through Pilling Sands is closed between Boxing Day and Good Friday to protect lambs and birdlife. During this period, the coastal path is diverted through the village. A car park is available 3/4 of a mile north-east of Pilling village, with an amenity area featuring picnic tables.

Knott End-on-Sea is a small coastal village located on the mouth of the River Wye, offering a wide expanse of sand that has been enjoyed by families for generations.

The village features a sculpture of famous Lancashire artist LS Lowry, with his dog, on the seafront, commemorating his work and links to the area. Visitors can enjoy a five-mile circular walk starting and ending at The Bourne Arms Pub, play a round of golf at the Knott End Golf Club, or take a 10-minute ferry ride between Fleetwood and Knott End, which is dog-friendly.
