Morecambe North bathing water is situated at the northern end of the town's promenade, which features heavy sea defences for most of its length. The bathing water beach is divided into several smaller beaches by large groynes. The beach itself is mainly sandy and can be popular with beachgoers in the summer months.
In the early and mid 20th century, Morecambe was a thriving resort town. Although things are quieter today, the resort still retains its charm and offers plenty of activities. Visitors can find arcades, shops, fish and chip shops, ice cream parlours, and other attractions along the seafront.
The promenade features a variety of art installations, games, and puzzles for children to enjoy. The art-deco façade of the Midland Hotel has been restored to its former glory, and a stone jetty with benches and ornamental birds juts out into the sea, offering excellent views of Morecambe Bay. The beach is ideal for watersports, including kite surfing and wind surfing, although there are no lifeguards on duty.
Visitors need to be aware of the dangers in the area, including incredibly fast tides, quicksand, and other hazards, which make it risky to stray far out into the bay. Dogs are banned from the beach from May 1st to September 30th but are allowed on the promenade, provided they are kept on leads.
The Morecambe Bay area is well known to birdwatchers, and the award-winning Tern Project features sculptures situated along the sea front. The whole family can enjoy the series of sculptures and interactive artworks along the Central Promenade and Stone Jetty, celebrating the bird life around Morecambe Bay.
For weekend visitors, there are guesthouses along the promenade and the Midlands Hotel nearby.
Morecambe North Beach is adjacent to the Lancashire Coastal Way.
