Platte Saline Beach is a crescent-shaped, shingle beach that faces north into the Channel. The beach is backed by low sand dunes, a few houses, and tennis courts, and is overlooked by Fort Doyle. One of the notable features of Platte Saline Beach is that it allows dogs all year round, making it a popular destination for dog owners.
The beach is especially popular with sea-anglers, who can often be spotted at dawn or dusk. The waters off the rocks are home to a variety of fish, including red mullet, sole, bass, conger, and codling. However, visitors should be aware that the steeply shelving beach means care should be taken if they fancy a swim.
At the north-east end of the beach lies Fort Doyle, built in the early 19th century as part of the defence system against the French. During the Second World War, the fort was used by the Germans. Beyond Fort Doyle, 19th-century Braye Harbour is the main harbour on the north side of the island.
