Banff Bridge Beach is a sand and shingle beach situated at the mouth of the River Deveron. The beach is composed of sand, shingle, and rocks, and features a harbour on its western bank in the town of Banff. The river was previously known for its unpredictability, but was tamed with the completion of Banff Bridge in 1779, which spans the river just behind the beach.
While the strong currents may not be suitable for swimming, some enthusiasts still surf on the waves, which can reach impressive sizes. Visitors to the beach can take advantage of parking facilities located directly next to the beach at the eastern end of the town, as well as additional parking options in the town centre. The town of Banff offers a range of amenities, including shops, restaurants, toilets, a golf course, and a museum.
The town of Banff has a rich history, dating back to the 12th century when a castle was built to repel Viking invasions. The town later flourished as a fishing district and served as the county town of Banffshire before becoming part of Aberdeenshire.
