The beach is also a popular destination for boating trips from the small harbour. The area is part of a peninsula formed by Strangford Lough and is rich in bird life.
Behind the beach, there is a large caravan park, providing accommodation for visitors. The nearby village offers a shop and a pub, catering to the needs of tourists. Visitors can also take a short stroll to the south-east along the coast to reach the most easterly point in Ireland. In contrast, Ballywalter Beach, located on the County Down Coast, is a long east-facing beach with a wide open sandy beach, rock pools, a play park, and picnic area. The beach is a popular destination for families, with plenty of space to play and explore. The nearby capital city of Belfast is also close to a number of local beaches, including Ballywalter Beach.
