Tyrella Beach, located in Downpatrick, County Down, is a popular destination for families and tourists alike, offering a wide flat sandy beach and a conservation area with mature sand dunes. .

Tyrella beach and conservation area boasts a wide flat sandy beach, stretching 2kms in length, backed by 25 hectares of mature sand dunes. This area is home to a variety of wild flowers and bird life, which can be observed in their natural coastal habitat. The beach offers a car-free zone and off-beach parking, making it an ideal location for families and tourists.

The beach provides a range of facilities, including baby changing facilities, basic public toilets, and parking near the beach. A lifeguard service is also provided during the summer season, ensuring safe bathing for visitors. For those interested in water sports, activities such as kite surfing, surfing, wind surfing, and fishing are available. However, visitors should be prepared for high waves and high winds on occasion.

Tyrella Beach and conservation area is a haven for local fauna and flora, with pleasant scenic walks nearby and stunning views of the Mourne mountains. The beach has held a Seaside Award every year since 1997 and is also a regular recipient of the Green Coast Award and Blue Flag Award. During the bathing season, dogs are banned on this beach between 10am to 6pm.

Visitors to Tyrella Beach can also enjoy horse rides along the beach with Seahorse Polo and Beach Rides, located nearby. The beach is an enclosed two kilometre complex of dunes within Dundrum Bay and is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts.
