Cramond Beach is located just to the north of the historic village of Cramond, an outer suburb of Edinburgh, approximately 5 miles west of the city centre. The beach is situated on the estuary of the River Almond and boasts a vast expanse of sand at low tide. Visitors can walk out to Cramond Island along the causeway at low tide, but must be mindful of the tides to avoid getting cut off.
The beach has a large car park, toilets, and a quaint pub, making it an ideal spot for a day out. A short path leads down to the beach, crossing a small field that backs the beach. A promenade behind the beach offers excellent views out over the Forth and is popular with dog walkers and cyclists.
Cramond is one of the earliest known sites of human habitation in Scotland, with evidence of a settlement dating back to around 8500 BC. The site has also been home to a Roman fort and a medieval fishing village, which grew into a desirable Edinburgh suburb in the 19th century.
