Pathhead Sands is situated to the east of Kirkcaldy's harbour and features a mixture of shingle and sand. The beach is a popular destination for locals during the summer months, as well as dog walkers who visit throughout the year.
There is ample free parking near the beach, along with picnic benches and a spacious grassy area adjacent to the car park. Visitors can take a short walk from the car park to explore the majestic ruins of Ravenscraig Castle, which dates back to the 15th century. Built by Mary of Guelders, widow of James II, this castle is notable for being one of the first in Scotland designed to withstand cannon fire. However, it suffered damage during the 17th century at the hands of Oliver Cromwell's forces.
At the southern end of the beach lies Kirkcaldy Harbour, which was once a bustling commercial port but now serves as a small marina. From the beach, visitors can enjoy scenic views across the Firth of Forth, towards Edinburgh and Cockenzie.
