Fisherrow East Beach is located in Musselburgh, a historic former fishing village a short distance east of Edinburgh city centre. The beach stretches from the tidal harbour to the mouth of the River Esk, offering views over the Firth of Forth, a Site of Special Scientific Interest known for its rich birdlife.
The sandy beach is backed by buildings and dunes, with a less urban feel as you move away from the harbour. The area is popular with walkers, and the 134-mile long John Muir long distance path, linking Helensburgh to Dunbar, passes alongside the beach. Nearby amenities include a golf course dating back to circa 1672, a historic racecourse, parking, toilets, and cafes, all located adjacent to the harbour.
The beach has a tidal harbour and is the mouth of the river Esk. The adjacent golf course, now within the racecourse, dates back to circa 1672, making it one of the oldest golf courses in the world.
