Southsea West Beach is a stretch of sloping shingle beach located between Southsea Castle and Lighthouse, and South Parade Pier, to the east of Portsmouth Harbour. The beach offers good views over The Solent and is an excellent spot to watch ships and ferries coming in and out of Portsmouth Harbour.
The beach is mostly shingle and slopes quite rapidly into the sea. It is backed by a promenade, which is a good place to take a stroll or go for a run. Behind the western end of the beach, The Rock Gardens provide a relaxing spot amidst tropical foliage and well-tended shrubs.
The beach offers various water activities, including swimming, paddleboarding, and windsurfing. Paddleboard rentals are available during the summer months, and lifeguards are on duty during this time to ensure safety for swimmers and beachgoers. The promenade is perfect for walking, cycling, or skating, and there are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and ice cream shops in the area.
The Pyramids, the town's largest leisure centre, features a good indoor children's play area, making it an ideal spot for families on rainy days. Canoe Lake, located just behind the beach, is a popular spot for families, offering a play area and opportunities to see various marine wildlife.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of dining experiences, from casual beach cafes to more upscale restaurants, with many offering fresh seafood and traditional British fare.
