Brighton Kemptown Beach is situated on the Sussex coast of the English Channel, east of Brighton Pier. The beach slopes steeply at first, composed of a mixture of shingle and sand, but levels off with more sand towards low water. Behind the beach, there is a bustling promenade with many resort facilities.
The beach serves one of the UK's most popular seaside resorts, offering plenty of traditional attractions, including a refurbished pier, arcades, fun fairs, and a vibrant café culture. Visitors can also explore local boutique shopping in The Lanes and enjoy the annual Summer Pride Week festival. The beach is used by swimmers, surfers, and sunbathers.
Black Rock Beach, also known as Cliff Bathing Beach, is located just east of Brighton Palace Pier towards the marina. This pebble beach is a popular spot for locals and naturists, with designated areas clearly signposted. It was the first designated 'clothes optional' beach in the UK. The nearby area offers plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy.
For those who don't fancy taking a 15-minute walk from the pier, the Volk electric railway operates a regular service. The area of beach closer to the marina has been designated a naturist beach, with signs indicating where naturist bathing and sunbathing are permitted. For more information on disabled access and facilities, visitors can visit the Brighton and Hove City Council's website.
