Eastbourne West Beach is a favourite among residents and visitors, boasting a shingle beach with sandy stretches and rocky pools at mid to low tide. The beach is set against the picturesque backdrop of Beachy Head, the UK's highest chalk sea cliff. The beach is intersected by wooden groynes, with some patches of sand exposed at low tide, when rockpools containing a variety of marine wildlife can be discovered.
The beach is backed by a wide promenade and attractive pleasure gardens, making it an ideal spot for families and watersport enthusiasts. Facilities available at the beach include showers, toilets, and a range of eateries nearby. Visitors can enjoy good views along the coast, towards the harbour, and south-west towards Beachy Head. The area also offers a number of interesting walks, including the Beachy Head South Downs Walk.
Eastbourne itself offers a range of entertainments and facilities, typical of a well-established British seaside resort. Nearby Holywell Retreat beach, located in the South Downs, is another popular visitor destination, offering beach chalets for hire and the Dotto Land seafront train, which runs along Eastbourne seafront.
