Newhaven West Quay Beach is a lesser-known beach located on the western side of the port of Newhaven's breakwater, offering a unique combination of sand and shingle. .

The beach within the breakwater is composed of sand, while to the western side of the breakwater, the beach is made up of shingle, backed by cliffs. This forms part of a quiet and long beach, with Castle Hill reserve, near Newhaven Fort, situated behind Newhaven.

West Quay beach is located near Newhaven Harbour, from which a passenger ferry service runs to the port of Dieppe in France. However, the beach is currently inaccessible to the public due to safety concerns and a fence has been erected to prevent entry.

Newhaven Fort, situated above the cliffs behind the beach, played a significant role in both world wars and is now an award-winning visitor attraction with a 1940s-themed tea-room. Visitors can explore the fort and discover the tunnels leading down to the beach.

The River Ouse enters the sea at Newhaven, and the town boasts two marinas, one on the river and one at West Quay. The West Quay Marina provides berthing for yachts and features a modern apartment block with a nautical-themed tower.

Newhaven West Quay Beach is dog-friendly all year round, making it a great place to walk your dog and escape the crowds. Visitors can also take a day trip to France from Newhaven Harbour or explore the local area.

The beach has been the subject of controversy in the past, with local campaigners attempting to have it awarded village green status in 2015. However, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Newhaven Port and Properties (NPP), the French company that owns the beach.
