East Quantoxhead Beach is a sand and rock beach situated on the Somerset coast, where the Quantock Hills meet the sea. The beach features interesting rock formations and many fossils.
The beach is a mix of pebbles, rocks, and sand, with views out across Bridgewater Bay towards the South Wales coastline. The beach is backed by very unstable cliffs with visible bands of blue lias, shale, and limestone. When the tide goes out, a large expanse of wave-cut platform is exposed, revealing rock pools teeming with interesting marine wildlife.
This stretch of the coast features tall Jurassic cliffs and many interesting fossils can be found here, including reptile remains and ammonites.
There is no parking at the beach, but cars can be left in the historic village of East Quantockhead. From here, it is a half-mile walk along the footpath to the coast, with steep steps leading down the cliffs. The village has some delightful thatched cottages, a duck pond, and an old mill. There are tearooms in nearby Kilve village.
St Audries Bay is a picturesque beach near Watchet in Somerset, featuring stunning sea-views, a wide open sand and pebble beach.
The beach itself is a mix of sand, pebbles, shingle, and rocks. The wide bay is bordered by unstable cliffs primarily composed of mudstones, siltstones, and marls. Notably, there are waterfalls at St Audries Bay, with one impressive waterfall cascading directly onto the pebbled beach below.
Visitors can access St Audries Bay via a path leading from the Home Farm Holiday Centre, which offers parking and basic amenities such as toilets and a small shop. The walk to the beach involves a 150-yard trek down a wide track followed by a short flight of steps. Dogs are permitted on the beach at all times, making it a dog-friendly destination.
