Brean Beach is a seven-mile stretch of sand running from Brean to Burnham-on-Sea, overlooking the Bristol Channel. The beach is approximately 2.7 kilometres wide and is a sand and mud beach resort. It boasts one of the longest stretches of sand in Europe and, at low tide, a vast expanse of mud flats are exposed. However, visitors are warned to be cautious when walking on the mud flats, as it can be dangerous to venture too far out.
The beach has ample parking both on and off the beach, as well as public conveniences and a café at the beach entrance. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including walking, dog walking, beach sports, and horse riding. The beach is dog-friendly, making it an ideal destination for pet owners. At low tide, the extensive tidal flats are favoured by walkers and beach sports enthusiasts.
Brean Down, a 97-metre high headland, dominates the skyline and stretches out into the sea, forming a natural pier. The down is home to a number of interesting archaeological sites, including evidence of Stone Age habitation, a Roman temple, and an Iron-Age fort. At the summit, visitors can find the remains of a 19th-century fort, built to defend against a possible Napoleonic invasion.
Brean Beach is located just over two miles down the coast from Weston-super-Mare and is easily accessible by car, with plenty of parking available. Toilets and drinking water are also available, and visitors can enjoy snacks from ice cream vans and a burger van.
