Blue Anchor Beach, located on the coast of Somerset, is a popular destination for those looking to explore the natural beauty of the Bristol Channel.

Blue Anchor Beach is a sand and shingle beach that offers a unique combination of geological features and natural attractions. The beach has a shallow slope and a very large tidal range, which means that at low tide, the sea can be up to half a kilometre away. The water has a naturally cloudy colour, and the beach is crossed by the Pill River and Carhampton Stream.

The beach at Blue Anchor Bay consists of an impressively long stretch of sand and shingle, with shingle above the high tide mark and an expanse of red-tinted sand revealed when the tide goes out. The beach is backed by a concrete wall along which a wide pavement runs, giving it a promenade-like feel. The beach is also sprinkled with alabaster rocks, which are rich in fossils.

The alabaster rocks on the beach are a major attraction for fossil enthusiasts, with many people chipping away at the rocks in the hope of finding a fossil fish or ammonite. The Jurassic limestone on the beach is also known to contain lovely pink crystals, making it an ideal spot for crystal hunting. Additionally, the beach is a great location for dog owners, with its long sandy stretch and scenic views.

Blue Anchor Beach is situated between Minehead and Watchet, and is easily accessible by train, with the beautifully preserved Blue Anchor station located just behind the beach. The beach is also backed by a small village of the same name.

Visitors to the beach should be aware of the very fast tides, which can pose a hazard to those who are not careful.
