Greenan Beach is situated to the south of Ayr, west of the River Doon. The beach is characterised by its sandy shore, accompanied by a few rocks, and is nestled between the mouth of the River Doon and a small headland. This headland is home to Greenan Castle, a 16th-century tower house that stands in a commanding position, overlooking the beach and the surrounding coastline.
The area around Greenan Beach is popular for walking, with several coastal paths that offer stunning views of the Firth of Clyde and the mountainous Isle of Arran. On a clear day, the town of Ayr can also be seen from the beach. Visitors can access the beach via short, flat footpaths from either Greenan Road or Castle Walk, which are located off the outskirts of Doonfoot.
Parking is available for beachgoers off Greenan Road and Castle Walk, with facilities such as shops and restaurants located in the centre of Doonfoot, approximately half a mile from the beach. For those looking to travel by public transport, the larger town of Ayr is a few miles to the north and has a railway station with direct services to Glasgow.
