Lunan Bay is situated north of Dundee and 1 mile south of Montrose. The bay features a broad sweep of sand stretching for one mile, divided in the middle by Lunan Water. This mile-long sandy beach is set in a secluded, rural location and is backed by sand dunes.
The beach is renowned for its excellent swimming conditions, as well as its suitability for various watersports, fishing, horse riding, and peaceful walks. Visitors can also explore the nearby cave and arch at the northern end of the beach. Furthermore, Lunan Bay is an excellent spot for searching for gemstones. The historic ruins of Red Castle overlook the beach, and several other historic sites and castles are scattered throughout the surrounding countryside, within walking distance of the beach.
Parking is available behind the northern end of the beach, accessible via a path over the sand dunes. A cafe is also located at the beach, providing a convenient spot for refreshments. For those seeking additional facilities, the nearest town is Montrose, a few miles to the north, which offers a range of shops, restaurants, and places to stay.
