Monifieth Beach is a long, sandy beach that looks out over the Firth of Tay, providing stunning views across to the southern side. The beach features a number of sea defences, including wooden groynes that become exposed at low tide. Additionally, several rocks are exposed at low tide, creating an opportunity for visitors to explore the pools around them and spot signs of wildlife.
The western end of the beach is backed by a caravan park and fields, making it an excellent location for walking and bird watching. The area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its large population of water birds and wildfowl. A walking and cycle path runs along the beach, stretching from Dundee to Arbroath. However, it is essential to note that the eastern end of the beach is part of a military training area and is off-limits to the general public.
Parking is available along Marine Drive, a short walk from the beach, next to a small park with a children's play area and Skate Park. Toilets and picnic benches with excellent views of the Firth of Tay can also be found here. Further facilities, including shops, restaurants, and a railway station with regular services to Dundee, are located in the centre of Monifieth, just a few hundred meters away. Golf enthusiasts will also appreciate the nearby Monifieth Golf Links, located just to the north of the beach.
