Carnoustie Beach is a small sand and rock beach situated a short walk from Carnoustie Railway Station. The beach slopes gently into the sea, and at high tide, the water can come all the way up to the sea wall. Conversely, at low tide, the distance to the water's edge can be as much as 300 metres, making it essential to check the tide times before visiting.
The beach is backed by a small town and a famous golf course, with several golf courses in the area, including the renowned Carnoustie Golf Course, which has hosted the Open Championships. There are multiple car parks nearby, as well as a leisure centre and children's play area with a paddling pool, located just behind the beach. The beach has three access points, with the main one being from the boat club, which features steps and a slipway leading onto the beach. Visitors can take a 2-mile stroll along the sands to Buddon Ness.
It is worth noting that bathing water quality samples taken by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency on 3 and 8 July 2006 did not meet legal minimum standards. For the latest water quality test results, visitors can refer to the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency website.
Shops, places to eat, and other limited facilities can be found in the small town of Carnoustie. Additionally, the area to the south of the beach is used by the military for firing ranges, and visitors should be aware of this when planning their visit.
