Limpert Bay is situated to the west of Cardiff Airport and is characterised by a shingle and rock beach. At low tide, the beach reveals a vast expanse of rocks and pebbles, interspersed with rock-pools and patches of sand. The bay is rich in fossils, making it a popular spot for fossil hunting. Two large cooling water outlets from the local power station are also present in the water.
The bay lies near the village of East Aberthaw, and to access the beach, visitors can turn off the B4205 towards Gileston and take the road south, which ends in a car park.
The beach offers views over the Bristol Channel towards Minehead and Exmoor, and is considered a good spot for fishing. Although there are no facilities at the beach, a historic pub, thought to have been built in 1380, can be found in East Aberthaw.
It's worth noting that Limpert Bay is distinct from Fontygary Bay, which is located nearby and features a popular caravan park, Fontygary Leisure Park, and a scenic coastline with impressive cliffs and a large cave.
Limpert Bay is on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the Wales Coast Path.
