Crimdon Beach is a gently sloping, sandy, and relatively remote beach, stretching approximately one kilometre in length, and forming part of a five-kilometre-long beach. The beach is backed by sand dunes, which are part of the Durham Coast National Nature Reserve, and lies in front of a caravan and holiday park. The Durham Coast path runs past the beach, providing scenic views and walking opportunities for visitors.
In its heyday during the 1950s, Crimdon Beach was a popular spot for day-trippers from inland working towns. However, since then, the beach has fallen into disrepair and is now generally quiet. Despite this, the beach remains a designated bathing area, popular with swimmers during the summer months.
The beach is surrounded by nature reserves, and the nearby caravan parks, although visible from the clifftops at the northern end, are largely out of sight from the beach. To the south, visitors can explore Crimdon Dene Beach and Crimdon South Beach, towards Steetley Pier in Hartlepool.
There are plans for a regeneration scheme to revitalise the area, which may help restore Crimdon Beach to its former glory.
Crimdon Beach is on the Durham Heritage Coast.
