Seaham Hall Beach is a long, sandy beach that stretches north from Seaham town and harbour for approximately half a mile. The beach features some areas of rock and is backed by a promenade, with low-rise cliffs and a grassy area behind. The beach is overlooked by Seaham Hall, a luxury hotel that was the venue for the wedding of Lord Byron to Anne Milbanke in 1815. A sculpture of a First World War soldier, locally known as "Tommy", is also situated above the beach, looking towards the war memorial.
The area has a rich history, with Seaham having been home to one of the country's largest glass factories until the 1920s. Today, the beach is renowned for its smooth, multi-coloured sea glass, which can be found among the shoreline, along with fossils and shells. The beach and surrounding area have undergone regeneration, and the tourist trade has brought new life to the former mining town.
Visitors to Seaham Hall Beach can enjoy sea glass collecting, walking along the beach, and taking in the scenic views. The beach is also a great starting point for walking along the Durham Coastal Footpath, which leads to Crimdon and other nearby attractions. The nearby Seaham Hall hotel, a 5-star award-winning spa hotel, offers luxurious accommodation and amenities.
Seaham Hall Beach is situated near several attractions, including the 7th-century Saint Mary the Virgin Church, one of the oldest churches in the country. The beach is also close to the marina, shops, and other attractions around the harbour, making it a popular destination for tourists during the summer months.
