Seaton Carew Central Beach is part of an extensive sandy beach fronting the southern end of the town of Seaton Carew, a small resort on Tees Bay to the south of Hartlepool. The beach is a tract of gently sloping golden sand ideal for bathing and recreation, with rocky areas and rock pools that are perfect for exploring the local wildlife.
The beach provides a good stretch of sand, popular with bathers and families during the summer season, and with walkers and those seeking a bracing sea air experience in the winter months. The beach is also a great location for golfers, with Seaton Carew Golf Links situated just behind the beach. Visitors will find a range of amenities, including arcades, restaurants, and places to park, as well as popular chip shops and ice-cream parlours in Seaton Carew itself.
Seaton Carew became a fashionable holiday resort in the 18th and 19th centuries, attracting visitors from a range of backgrounds. Today, the beach offers views of the surrounding industrial heritage, with distant chimneys and cranes adding a touch of drama to the sea views. The area is also home to the Seaton Common and Dunes Local Nature Reserve and Teesmouth National Nature Reserve, providing opportunities for nature exploration.
The beach is a popular spot for windsurfers and kitesurfers, and golfers can play at the Seaton Carew Golf Club, which backs the southern side of the beach. Visitors can also stay on the seafront at hotels such as the Marine Hotel or Norton Hotel, which directly overlook the beach. A promenade runs adjacent to the beach, dating back to 1905, and provides a pleasant walking route for those who prefer not to walk on the sand.
The area is home to a range of wildlife, including seals, which can sometimes be spotted basking just offshore. The nearby Hartlepool Submerged Forest is an underwater peat area containing the remains of tree-trunks that are over 5,000 years old.
