Easington Beach is situated approximately mid-way between Sunderland and Hartlepool on the Durham Heritage Coast. The beach is a mixture of sand and shingle, backed by low cliffs and dunes, providing stunning views along the rocky coastline and out towards the North Sea.
The beach is a popular spot for sea anglers and fossil hunters, and is usually fairly quiet. Access to the beach from the car park is via a set of steps which wind gently down the cliffs. The England Coastal Path runs nearby, offering a choice of walks in the area. Visitors can also explore the Easington Colliery Local Nature Reserve, which is located behind the cliffs.
Food and facilities are available in Easington Colliery, a former mining town located beyond the cliffs on the other side of the coast road. The nearest parking for the beach is at Easington Colliery Coastal Carpark. It's worth noting that some scenes from the film Billy Elliot were shot at this location, using 400 locals as extras.
Easington Beach is on the Durham Heritage Coast.
