East Wittering Beach is characterised by its shelving shingle and wooden groynes, with waves that tend to 'dump' at high tide. At low tide, the beach reveals extensive sandy shallows, perfect for building sandcastles and playing ball games. The beach is family-friendly, easily accessible from Shore Road and Tamarisk Walk, and offers multiple paths through the grass-covered dunes. However, dogs are banned from the main beach in summer, and there are no lifeguards on duty.
The adjoining village of East Wittering offers a range of facilities, including cafes, shops, restaurants, and public houses. Sailing and beginner surfing are popular activities at the beach, with a low beach gradient and lack of hazards such as rips and rocks. Scotts Farm campsite is a 10-minute walk from the beach, providing a convenient option for those looking to stay nearby.
Bracklesham Bay, located nearby, is a sandy bay backed by shingle and a sea wall, perfect for long walks and a range of water sports. The bay is a popular destination for surfers, windsurfers, and kitesurfers, thanks to its wide open waters and steady coastal breeze. Visitors can also enjoy fossil hunting, with shark teeth, shells, and ancient marine life embedded in the soft clay cliffs and shoreline.
