Ogmore Central Beach is a well-known beach along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, although it suffers from litter and refuse. The beach is popular with families, surfers, and canoeists. It features a surf club and toilets, but apart from an ice cream van, there are no other immediate facilities available. Visitors can find great local pubs half a mile up the river by Ogmore Castle.
The beach has a variety of activities to offer, including swimming, surfing, fishing, and walking. However, swimmers are advised to stick to designated swimming areas and avoid the River Ogmore due to safety reasons. Life guards are on duty daily from July through to September. The beach is also suitable for watersports such as kayaking and canoeing.
Ogmore-by-Sea, where the beach is located, is a charming seaside village in the St Brides Major community on the Glamorgan coast in Wales. The village is close to Bridgend and a short drive from Cardiff. A large parking area can be reached from the B4524, with toilets available. The beach can be accessed via a long ramp that descends the side of the rocky cliffs.
The area has a rich history, with Ogmore Castle offering a glimpse into Wales' medieval past. The beach and surrounding area are also known for their stunning geology and diverse wildlife, making it a nature lover's paradise. Visitors can take a walk along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, part of the Vale Trail 1, and enjoy the area's rare plants and seabirds.
Ogmore Beach welcomes dogs all year round without restrictions, making it one of the best dog-friendly beaches in the area. Visitors are advised to check tide times to make the most of their beach experience and bring sturdy shoes for rocky areas.
Ogmore Central Beach is on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast.
