Lower Largo Beach is a sheltered, picturesque sandy beach offering stunning views south over the Firth of Forth. The beach is situated in a pretty village with a long and interesting maritime history. The shoreline features a good-sized stretch of soft sand, with rocks and pools further down the shore.
The beach provides splendid views over the Firth of Forth, making it an attractive spot for visitors. Lower Largo is also notable for being the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk, a celebrated explorer who led expeditions in the South Seas in the 1700s. Selkirk is famously known for having lived on an uninhabited island near Chile for four years, which is said to have inspired Daniel Defoe's book 'Robinson Crusoe'. A bronze statue of Selkirk can be found in Lower Largo, outside his former home.
