A popular destination for families, Sandhaven is within easy walking distance of the town centre and the award winning sea front parks. Facilities include Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, Dunes Bowling Alley and Smugglers Cove Crazy Golf Course, together with a hugely popular skate park and multi use games area. During the summer months the beach is cleaned on a daily basis and a dog ban is enforced along the whole length of the beach between 8am and 6pm. A lifeguard service is provided by the RNLI from June until early September and a lively programme of events and activities takes place adjacent to the beach during June, July and August. The beach is a designated site of special scientific interest due to the seabird population, in particular the high numbers of wintering sanderlings and purple sandpipers.
