Blyth South Beach is a gently sloping sandy resort beach situated at the southern end of the Northumberland coast. The designated bathing beach, which is backed by a promenade, is approximately one kilometre in length and is at the northern end of a four kilometre bay.
Blyth South is a long, wide, golden stretch of sandy beach, backed by a system of sand dunes which are a haven for wildlife and a designated area of Special Nature Conservation. The beach offers a range of activities, including bathing, surfing, water sports such as jet-skiing, and fishing. Visitors can also spot marine wildlife such as dolphins, seals, or porpoises from the beach. Amenities include parking at the Mermaid Car Park and along Beach Way, toilets, a café, a children’s play area, and a surf school.
The beach can be accessed down a slipway, and there are also a number of colourful beach huts along the promenade. Further facilities can be found in the town centre, which is about half a mile north of the beach and has many shops and places to eat. Visitors can also enjoy a playground, outdoor gym, and ice cream parlour near the beach.
The beach is also home to a bandstand and offers a range of historical attractions, including the Blyth Battery, which can be visited nearby. Visitors can also walk along the beach southwards toward Seaton Sluice.
