Cullercoats Beach is a small, sandy, crescent-shaped beach situated in Cullercoats Bay, which is enclosed at each end by small piers. The beach provides a sheltered bathing area and a boat launching point, for which a fee applies. At high tide, the bay divides into two distinct North and South beaches.
The beach is backed by small cliffs and features an active lifeboat station, built in Victorian times, as well as Newcastle University's School of Marine Science. Cullercoats Watch House, a popular location for artists, overlooks the bay and beach. The beach is also home to a selection of caves, which can be explored at low tide times. Visitors can search for marine wildlife in the rockpools found here at low tide.
The beach is used for a variety of watersports and offers a range of activities, including swimming, sunbathing, and exploring the surrounding coastline. A promenade runs the whole length of Cullercoats, offering stunning views of the bay and beach.
Parking can be found in the centre of Cullercoats, behind the northern end of the beach, as well as a range of facilities such as pubs, shops, places to eat, and a station along the yellow line of the Tyne and Wear metro. The beach can be accessed down a sloping road, and there are public toilets and a large children's play area nearby.
Cullercoats Beach is dog friendly, but there are restrictions in place from May 1 to September 30. The beach has received awards for its cleanliness and amenities.
