Hillhead Beach is situated south of Stubbington in Fareham, Hampshire, and is set along a long, straight section of coastline opposite the Isle of Wight. The beach is separated into three or four distinct areas and is predominantly shingle at high tide, with large expanses of muddy sand and shells exposed at low water.
The bathing water at Hillhead Beach is a gently shelving beach that faces south-west, across the end of Southampton Water and the Solent, and is sheltered from the wind by the Isle of Wight. The beach is backed by a tarmac walkway and Saltern Park, and features wooden groynes that offer protection from the erosive forces of longshore drift.
Hillhead Beach is popular with watersports enthusiasts, offering good sailing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing opportunities. The beach is also a popular spot for fishing, and there are several kitesurfing schools that operate in the area. Amenities include a small harbour located at the mouth of the River Meon, public toilets, and parking.
The Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve, located just beyond the harbour, is home to a vast array of birdlife and offers trails and hides for observing wildlife. However, dogs are not allowed on the main part of the beach from May 1st to September 30th, although there are designated areas where dogs can be walked year-round.
